Welcome to LHS Student Council!
Club Advisors: Ms Mason ([email protected]) and Mrs Belhumeur ([email protected])
The Student Council at Leicester High School is a dynamic group of elected students representing all grades. Our mission is to foster a positive school culture and environment. Through collaboration, leadership, and creativity, we organize events and advocate for student interests by serving as a liaison to the administration. The Council consists of both members, who were elected, and Executive board members (E-board) who are typically upperclassmen, and lead their own groups during monthly meetings. The entire operation is overseen by our two amazing advisors Mrs. Belhumeur and Ms. Mason.
The Student Council has a number of tasks that we work on throughout the entire school year. Before students arrive on the first day of school, Student Council meets to handle all the decorating. For instance, at the start of this year we painted windows and placed the individualized paws around the campus. Just a few weeks later, we have fully shifted our focus to homecoming. We plan each of the spirit day themes and coordinate the bonfire. If you remember the Wolverine Cup, The Hypnotist Show with Dan Candell, and Capture the Flag nights from last year, all of those events were run by the Student Council. This year we plan to add new events to our agenda such as a lip sync contest (before holiday break), and a Valentine's Day movie night. Further the group supports community endeavors such as collecting canned and boxed goods for the local food pantry at the holidays.
However, what Student Council is most known for is its role in our second spirit week and Olympic Foolery, which takes place the week prior to spring break. Unlike homecoming, this week is all about class versus class, with everything taken up a notch. The spirit is always through the roof, and the days are filled with competitive energy. Olympic Foolery is always one of the highlights of the year, wrapping up a fun filled week on Friday afternoon, when we all compete in the gym. Without Student Council, none of this would be possible.
