Scholarships 2017-18

There are many scholarships out there for our high school seniors. Seniors, if you look, you will find them. It is worth it to take the time to complete the scholarship applications. Make sure you apply to college first AND get scholarship applications done. You have to get in to college to be able to use your scholarship!

National, regional and local scholarships are all online! Check back to this site often to get updated information!

LHS Guidance will post them throughout the year as they are released from the sponsoring organization. The larger, more competitive national and regional scholarships are available earlier in the school year and local scholarships are available in early spring.

Remember that you should NEVER have to pay money to get information about FREE scholarships!
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS:

Please follow the directions for each scholarship respectively. Very few scholarship applications are due to the guidance office. Most are due to the scholarship committee directly. Review each application for instructions to be sure your packet gets to the correct recipient.

*This ONE application makes students eligible for many scholarships with recipients to be determined by the LHS Scholarship Committee. If you only fill out one scholarship application, fill this one out!!! The application needs to be completed in full and handed in to guidance by 2:00 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018. Extensions are not given.

REGIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS


The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship awards a four year renewable scholarship to students from New England with financial need. Please click here for complete information and eligibility criteria.

Red Pine Scholarship Opportunity is seeking its next class of students from low to middle income families in Massachusetts who have demonstrated academic excellence and are planning to attend competitive colleges as freshmen in the fall of 2016. Please click here for the application.

The Greater Worcester Community Foundation Scholarship application is now available online. This one application opens the door to multiple scholarships that are available to Leicester students. These scholarships can be a good deal of money so take the time to apply! Applications are due by 5:00 pm on Monday, March 6, 2017.

The Koplik Certificate of Mastery with Distinction is a scholarship opportunity that provides free tuition to any state university for all students who meet the minimum criteria. Students must have scored all Proficient on their 10th grade MCAS with at least one subset being Advanced. Students must also meet minimum score requirements on SAT Subject Tests or on AP Exams. Students with two AP Exam scores of 3 or better meet the criteria needed. Students may substitute one test score for distinguished community involvement, of which there are specific qualifying programs. Please refer to the MA DESE website for specific information and details. Deadline for this application is May 1st, but you should check in with your guidance counselor to let them know you will be applying as soon as possible.

Ernie's Auto Wash Scholarship in association with the Marc & Ernest Pallotta Foundation offer three $1000 scholarships for graduating seniors of Worcester area schools. Students who win the scholarships typically have excellent grades and writing skills, and also have had some hardship in their lives which they write about in their essay. Financial need is also a factor. The deadline is April 30th.

The Yawkey Scholars Program is available to LHS seniors with a strong academic record who will be attending a competitive private college in Massachusetts, who engage in a mentoring relationship and ongoing community service, and who also have significant financial need. Click here to refer to the website for specific criteria for this scholarship. Applications need to be postmarked by February 12, 2016.

Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship Program. Hood Milk will award three $5,000 scholarships in each of the six New England states. Applicants to accredited 2 or 4 year colleges will be asked to write an essay explaining how they display sportsmanship and integrity on and off the field. Students must play a varsity sport, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (83) or higher, and performed volunteer work in the community. Above all they must show their ability to put the spirit of competition above winning. Click here for to apply. Applications have a deadline of March 6, at 3:00pm.

The Wace Inc Co-operative Scholarship is available for any student applying to the following institutions, Clarkson University, SUNY Oswego, Drexel, Johnson and Whatles University, UMass Lowell, Rochester Institute of Technology, The University of Toledo, or Wentworth Institute of Technology. Qualifications include having a GPA of 3.5 or higher and you have to be accepted to one of the institutions listed above. Deadline depends on the institution you apply to and if you apply early.

The Hanover Community Scholarship Program offers thirty $1000 to $2000 scholarships to Worcester area seniors attending public high school.Leicester High seniors are eligible and must be attending a 2 or 4 year accredited college in the fall. LHS students have won these scholarships in the past and students are encouraged to apply. Please note that financial need is not considered.The Scholarship application is available from October 1st through November 30 th, with the application and all supplemental material due no later than November 30th.

Big Y Scholarship Program This is available to all students in the Big Y supermarket area, to both customers and employees, and are awarded to the most academically outstanding students.There are also separate scholarships available that recognize the tremendous sacrifice that firefighters and police officers, as well as military service members and their families make to help keep everyone safe. Applications must be mailed in with all supporting documentation and the postmark deadline is February 1st. Applications are available online or in guidance.

The Price Chopper Golub Foundation Scholarship program. Price Chopper offers ten scholarships to students living in their service area ranging from $2000 to $8000. Eight of the ten scholarships are for graduating seniors who will be attending college full time in the fall. Students should review all procedures and follow all directions when applying for a scholarship. Applications will be available in January. You can apply beginning in January and the deadline is usually in March.

The Henry David Thoreau Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships to high school seniors going in to the interdisciplinary field of environmental studies. The application deadline for all materials to be received at the office is Feburary 1st for MA high school seniors.

The MA Restaurant Association Scholarship program is for students who are going to an accredited culinary institution and who have a certain number of hours working in a restaurant. Deadline is April 3.
Theawards $1000 scholarships to high school seniors who are planning on attending college for journalism. To qualify students must be residents of New England, study journalism or a related field, and a grade point average of 2.3 (76) or above. The deadline is March 20.

The Stephen Phillips Scholarship is available to students who have a 3.0 or above, have significant financial need, possess a skilled writing ability, and have taken a demanding course schedule. Log on to the website to get information on all the applicant requirements and deadlines. The deadline for the 2015-2016 New Applications for High School and College Students is May 1.

You can apply for a variety of scholarships eligible to Massachusetts students by going to StudentScholarships.org. Scholarships include the Global Lift Equipment Scholarship, Horatio Alger Scholarship, Youth Volunteer Scholarship Award, Odenza Marketing Group Volunteer Scholarship, Peter Pasula Study Habits Scholarship, and the Maple Leaf Dentistry Scholarship. ***There are many online scholarship search engines and websites. Please be careful when searching online. Some sites are just fishing for your personal contact information and some are trying to scam you out of money. BE WISE! With that said, there are many useful tools out there and a lot of money for those willing to put in the time to look and apply. Some websites that we have advised kids to try are Fastweb.com and Scholarships.com. (Please let us know if you find you have any trouble using any of these sites, or if you have a site that worked well for you. We appreciate and like to spread the information.
